Tips On Choosing Your Hawaii Wedding Venue!

Picking your venue is one of the very first steps in planning your destination wedding in Hawaii, which rightfully so can be a stressful part of the wedding planning process! So in an effort to curb the pressure, we have some questions you should be asking yourself while weighing out your options.

unveiledhawaii.com | Destination Wedding Planner and Designer in Hawaii | Unveiled Weddings at Lanikuhonua Cultural Art Center | Mike Adrian Photography | Destination Planning on Maui Oahu Kauai _ (41).jpg

Wedding Date:

What day of the week do you have the wedding? Contrary to tradition of a “weekend wedding”, all days run the same in Hawaii. Meaning a Sunday feels like a Monday, a Tuesday feels like a Friday and while yes, a Saturday wedding date would in theory make the most sense, with destination weddings in Hawaii, there really is no right or wrong way, or should we say day? On that note, make sure to inquiry with the venue about pricing and how that is affected or not by the day of the week you choose to host the wedding. Or even what day of the week they might be closed if any.

unveiledhawaii.com | Destination Wedding Planner and Designer in Hawaii | Unveiled Weddings at Lanikuhonua Cultural Art Center | Christine Clark Photography | Destination Planning on Maui Oahu Kauai _ (23).jpg

Layout of Venue:

Do you want to have your ceremony and your reception at the same venue? Oftentimes, especially given that many guests have traveled from abroad, couples will choose to host the wedding in one location, which if this is the case, just make sure to understand the layout of your venue, as well as the maximum guest occupancy. Details to consider are the actual ceremony locations the property provides, and how those co-exist with the possible cocktail hour and reception locations. The flow of the wedding is HUGE, and that should be at the forefront of your mind when choosing your wedding location.

Restrictions:

Does the venue have any deal breaker restrictions? Is it owned by a caterer that requires you to order their food and use their bartenders? Maybe they only allow you to get in at 3pm that day and you wanted to have a lot of decor that would require more setup time. Or what if, which is very standard in Hawaii, they require your event to finish by 10:00 pm. And another, what do they allow in the way of live entertainment?

unveiledhawaii.com | Destination Wedding Planner and Designer in Hawaii | Unveiled Weddings at Haiku Mill | Toto Villaruel Photography | Destination Planning on Maui Oahu Kauai _ (30).jpg

Venue Inclusions:

What does the venue include? Make note of any items included with the venue: A/V equipment, chairs, tables, linens, etc. These could mean huge cost savings for you if you don't have to rent them through a separate vendor!

Tips on choosing your wedding venue in Hawaii

Catering:

What restrictions does the venue have? See if the venue has restrictions on catering, such as an in-house caterer or a preferred list of caterers you are required to work with. If you have your heart set on a specific food truck for instance, you'll want to make sure the venue will allow something like that.

Unveiled Hawaii Blog | Tips On Choosing Your Venue For A Destination Wedding in Hawaii

Guest Experience:

What will guests remember from the wedding? The entire experience beginning to end will matter, which means arrival to departure!! If they need to drive around for 30 minutes to find parking, they may be grumpy when they walk in the door, which means all the money you spent on your decor will mean much less in the end. Or what about a nanny service if you choose to allow children to attend the reception? Or what about the bathroom essentials; will you have them there to assure they are comfortable as can be? Even the very chair they sit in, will it be comfortable for the hour long dinner. Whatever it is, remember guest comfort to ensure the best guest experience!

Jon and Sara’s Perfect Oahu Wedding

SaraJon-251.jpg

Jon and Sara exchanged vows in September at the majestic Lanikuhonua Cultural Art Institute in Oahu. This Hawaii Wedding location was the perfect middle ground for Jon’s family traveling from Australia, and Sara’s family traveling from San Francisco, which is a common scenario for many couples with family’s arriving from both continents. To bring everything together, the couple enlisted Hawaii Destination Wedding Planner Lorrie Betsill Nielson, who three years earlier planned the grooms sister’s wedding on the neighbor island of Maui, putting the pressure on to make this special day uniquely their own!

For Jon and Sara, an intimate ceremony and reception with simplistic and Hawaiiana touches were perfectly detailed by ‘Okika Floralwith flourishing greens paired with ivory flowers and gold accents. At the top of Sara’s wish list were pineapples, pineapples, pineapples which Lorrie was able to tastefully incorporate into the reception table design and surprise signature drink crafted by Stir Beverage. Custom flatware by Pacific Party Rentals and beautiful BBJ linens brought in the soft blue and grey hues, with paper goods and signage provided by Anna Claire Calligraphy, all perfectly adorning the guest dining tables creating a cozy and romantic oceanfront feel just as they had dreamed.

All of these amazing details and heartfelt moments were captured effortlessly by Christine Clark; showcasing the beauty and joy of Jon and Sara’s perfect Hawaii Wedding Day! You can also take a peek at their video here by No Ka Oi Media here; https://vimeo.com/234603540

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Duffield! We wish you every bit of happiness in the world on the new and exciting journey ahead!

Becca & Ryan’s Joyful Destination Wedding in Maui

1.jpg

Becca and Ryan’s romance began in the sunshine of Australia, so it was only fitting for their love to be sealed forever in a different beautiful coastal destination like Hawaii. For Hawaii wedding planner, Lorrie Betsill Nielson, curating the details for both the Wedding Day, and also their Aloha Welcome Party the night before, was a dream come true as the love that surrounded them by their family and friends was the perfect reflection of the pure love they have for one another. To kick off the Maui destination wedding festivities, we began with a welcome reception at the beautiful Westin Maui Resort + Spa that embodied the aloha spirit shot beautifully by Sanaz Photography.

Guests were treated to a visual rainbow of vibrant tropical details and florals, which they enjoyed while sipping the couple’s signature cocktail, a Mai Tai, amongst the palms.

Fresh local fish tacos with the couple’s favorite toppings were served, while guests dined at communal tables designed with clear modern stools and simple, clean florals, pineapples and palm leaves.

A Maui destination wedding isn’t complete without a taste of shaved ice! Becca and Ryan incorporated this extra sweet station for guests to choose their favorite flavors of this refreshing Hawaiian staple.

The evening centered around details that were bright, fresh and joyful, just like Becca and Ryan. With live musical sound provided by Barefoot Minded, bringing the perfect blend of island style vibes.

For their wedding day, Becca and Ryan chose romantic details, with an al fresco oceanfront flair with a focus on bright and carefully planned details. “We wanted the guests to attend their wedding, not just any wedding!” says destination wedding planner Lorrie Betsill Nielson, founder and creative director of Unveiled Hawaii. 6 TIPS TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING

1.jpg

Planning a destination wedding doesn’t come with a rule book. Thankfully, we have planned many luxury Hawaii weddings and want to share 6 tips to know before your destination wedding.

1. Hire a destination wedding planner

Once you know the time of year you want to get married (or even before) it is a very good idea to hire a wedding planner. Destination wedding planners play a vital role to ensure your dream wedding goes off without a hitch, and especially when you are a having a luxury destination wedding. There are many additional details that go into planning a wedding from afar and you want to feel comfortable knowing it is going to be perfect every step of the way. We would love to chat with you about planning your destination wedding!

2.jpg

2. Be weather-wise

Getting married in a tropical destination like Hawaii has many amazing benefits. Beautiful sunny days and warm romantic nights are just two of them! Although, there are times when rain is more common, so if your dream is to have an outdoor ceremony and reception, be sure to ask your destination wedding planner about the weather patterns throughout the islands.

3.jpg

3. Negotiate hotel room blocks well in advance

Having your wedding in a popular destination like Hawaii means your guests are in for a wonderful vacation! Determine as far in advance as you can, where you want your guests to stay so that you’re able to lock-in the best rates possible during your wedding festivities. It’s ideal to offer at least two options of varying price points for your guests to choose from.

4.jpg

4. Send save-the-dates as early as you can

Once you have decided on your wedding date and the room blocks are secured, it’s time to send your save-the-dates! Don’t worry about sending them too early. The sooner you send your save-the-date, the sooner guests will be able to begin planning their trip to Hawaii. People will also start telling you whether or not they plan to attend, which will help give you an idea of how many guests you will have for the wedding.

5.jpg

5. Book activities ahead of time

There are unlimited activities to enjoy during your destination wedding in Hawaii. Help your guests make the most of their trip by booking a couple group activities or excursions. This not only helps your guests plan their trip, but also gives you more quality time to share with your guests who travelled to Hawaii to celebrate with you.

6.jpg

6. Coordinate shipping for any important items you are sending

If there are items you plan to incorporate in your wedding that need to be shipped, make sure to send them well in advance so they arrive on time. You don’t want to have to pay for expensive expedited shipping if possible. It can also be cumbersome to pack everything in your suitcases, so if you can ship items ahead of time that’s often best.

How to Bring the French Countryside to Your Luxury Hawaii Wedding

country-1.jpg

Nothing is more beautiful than getting married in Hawaii, except for integrating a gorgeous French country-inspired design for your luxury Hawaii destination wedding. The rustic chicness, beautiful vintage accents, romantic details....ooh la la! As a luxury wedding planner in Hawaii, Lorrie Betsill Nielson is always dreaming up creative ways to bring the latest trends to Hawaii. Here are a few of her tips for bringing the beauty of the French countryside to your destination wedding. Photo: Corrine Graves

Twinkles & Shine

Everything looks more beautiful beneath the romantic glow of string lights. Picture an old French farmhouse at dusk, illuminated by strands of soft twinkling or bistro lights. Incorporate the same look by stringing lights above your tables or around trees and bushes. Add candles throughout your tables for natural ambient lighting that won’t take away from the beauty of the delicate string lights. Bring irresistible romance to your Hawaii wedding!

Family Style

The French are known for refined, tailored style - the simpler, the better. When it comes to your seating, use long reclaimed wood tables and bistro style chairs. There is no need for tablecloths! You want the rustic elements of the tables and chairs to be the focal point, accented by your beautiful place settings and florals. The long tables are perfect for serving your meals family style if you choose, just like they would in a real French farmhouse. Your guests will be in awe of your luxury wedding décor!

Soft & Subtle Linens and Ribbon

Soft linen napkins or ones made from vintage French grain sacks are the quintessential accents for a chic country place setting. Juxtapose the more rustic linens with gorgeous antique china. You can find them in beautiful feminine florals which balances the look of the more masculine, rustic table.

French Florals

From gorgeous wildflowers that France is famous for, to simple branches and edible accents like herbs and fresh lemons, there are many ways you can bring the feel of France to your wedding through the florals you choose. Wrapping bouquets in antique lace or using simple twine on hand tied bouquets will give the most authentic French floral feel to your Hawaii wedding florals!

End on a Sweet Note

France is famous for its decadent pastries and sweet. Consider incorporating a final taste of the French countryside with a crepe bar, colorful macaroons or puff pastries as part of your dessert selections. And of course, don’t forget the Champagne! Incorporating a theme of French style to your destination wedding in paradise will be an unforgettable experience for your guests!

CJEVANS_Theknotmaui0003.jpg

Here at Unveiled Hawaii, we often have to pinch ourselves, as we have the distinct pleasure of planning luxury destination weddings in Hawaii. What more could you ask for than exquisite backdrops, nearly-perfect year-round weather, and unparalleled destination wedding vendors? While the thought of a destination wedding could be a bit daunting, luxury Hawaii wedding planner, Lorrie Betsill Nielson, is here to give an insider’s perspective on what makes Hawaii an irresistible destination wedding location. So without any delay here are 10 Reasons to get married in Hawaii! Photo: Chris Evans Photography

1. Destination wedding, but no passport needed

Often times couples envision destination weddings on far-off lands where passports are required, which can be a common road-block for some guests. Yet, destination weddings aren’t limited to foreign countries – Hawaii is a magical destination hotspot where you can have the destination wedding of your dreams without any passport nightmares!

5. Rich and diverse scenery

Each island offers something unique to fit every couple’s dream destination wedding. Kauai is perfect for the couple looking for a more private, tranquil ambiance. While Waikiki is more ideal for a lively wedding with a party atmosphere! There’s an abundance of unique sceneries to choose from as well – classic sandy beaches, rainforests, mountains and even volcanic landscapes – the options are endless!

6. Special traditions

The islands are rich with culture and native tradition and when respectfully incorporated into a ceremony, it makes for a memorable, meaningful and beautiful exchanging-of-the-vows. There are a number of different traditions to be incorporated into a Hawaii destination wedding, like exchanging of leis, or playing the Hawaiian Wedding song. Regardless of which traditions you choose, you’ll certainly feel the Aloha Spirit – an aura of friendliness, kindness and love, here on the islands.

How to Entertain your Destination Wedding Guests Before & After the “I Do’s”

Destination Weddings are adventurous and can easily be transformed into the ultimate “wedding-cation” not only for the bride and groom, but also for their guests and family members. One key way to guarantee this, is by planning a variety of pre and post ceremony events that will leave your guests departing with experiences and memories they will hold dear for years to come! Here are a few tips on how to entertain your destination wedding guests before and after the “I Do’s”, from luxury Hawaii wedding planner, Lorrie Betsill Nielson.

The Pre-Wedding Soiree: Rehearsal Dinners & Welcome Parties

The rehearsal dinner is traditionally held the night before the wedding day and is considered the “party before the party”. However, rather than a formal dinner, turn this special time into a fabulous welcome party, which allows all guests to come together from the moment they arrive in Hawaii! This is a fun way to show your appreciation to your family and friends who traveled from afar to attend your Hawaii destination wedding! A subtle theme for your welcome party can add some fun flair, and can relieve any prewedding tensions as all of your family and friends will have the opportunity to meet and enjoy themselves!

CJEvans_JD.jpg

Hawaii Wedding Activities & Excursions:

Your dream Hawaii wedding destination, has so much to offer guests, with a variety of ways to explore the islands! Remember to create a wedding excursion hashtag for your guests!

Resort Spa/ Golf Day

Organizing a spa day or golf tee time is a great way to help guests relax and unwind into their wedding vacation, and start feeling blissful before the big day. This gives guests an option depending on their interests, and allows ample time for them to socialize on a more personal level! Most Hawaiian resorts have spas on site and some offer bridal spa packages and of course Hawaii boasts many luxurious golf resorts, with spectacular ocean views, and guaranteed fun!

CJEvans_JD-3270.jpg

Daytime Catamaran Trip or Sunset Cruise

Setting sail on the pacific is always one of couple’s favorite ways to share Hawaii with their loved ones! This proves a very accessible excursion for all guests to enjoy. Even more popular during winter months when the humpback whales populate the Hawaiian island chain! Guests can relax with a cold drink and take in the spectacular views, while mingling and meeting everyone!

CJEvans_JD2.jpg

An Adventurous Daytrip

For your more adventurous wedding guests or bridal party, organizing an exciting activity creates instant memories and probably some fun stories too! Hawaii offers amazing hikes, zip-lining, waterfalls, para-sailing, and so much more.

Post Wedding After Parties

When hosting a luxury destination wedding, where guests have travelled great distances to attend, the after-party trend is gaining popularity, as a fun way to prolong the wedding festivities into the wee hours of the morning. These post-reception blowouts are usually a hit and often the most memorable!

One Last Tip…

Welcome Favors & Arrival Gifts for Guests

Destination wedding welcome bags (for out-of-towners) is the perfect way to thank your guests for coming and show your appreciation from the start. The best welcome favors are items that can be used on the trip, things guests could have forgot to bring, and always include a local treat! Including a wedding itinerary for your guests is key! This detail not only informs your guests of important times and activities, but also increases the excitement of the wedding festivities to come from the moment they arrive!

Four Seasons Lanai Luxury Wedding Venue

Ever wonder what it’s like to get married in a dream-like luxury wedding paradise? For those of you looking for the perfect Hawaii Luxury Wedding Venue, look no further than the Four Seasons Lanai. Lanai is an exclusive island that is a dream escape for relaxation. With the gorgeous mountains, seaside cliffs and broad beaches, there is natural beauty everywhere you look. Couple this with tropical flowers, deep blue ocean and bright greenery, who could not ask for a more picture-perfect backdrop? And what better place where you can extend your special day into an activity filled wedding weekend? As well as take advantage of the luxury spa to relax before your big day, hit the golf course with your wedding party and family, host a sunset sail or private luau for your guests, and possibly end with a seaside brunch post wedding day. Whatever it is, the Four Seasons Lanai pulls out all the stops when it comes to cuisine and five star service and is exactly what the Unveiled Hawaii team was presented with after coming on board to take part in the planning of Maggie and Todd’s three day Lanai Wedding soiree. We fell in love over and over again with the romantic atmospheres that this wedding venue had to offer, which had both elegant indoor and outdoor spaces that allowed our team to create the unique and vibrant vision our bride and groom had in mind. The natural lighting of the outdoor space set the stage for swoon-worthy pictures - a dream come true for a destination wedding planner. And we are sure you will agree as you step inside of this spectacular celebration of true love!

To begin we start with a First Look in the seclusion of the 12th Hole on the Manele Golf Course high atop a sweeping cliffside of black lava rock surrounded by the mighty Pacific Ocean.

In an effort to bring to life Maggie’s vision of capturing the sunset, coupled with her multi-colored selection of each of her 12 bridesmaids dresses, Lorrie Betsill Nielson, founder and creative director for Unveiled Hawaii, pieced together 12 different bouquets that would compliment hers while uniquely standing on their own.

Those colors flowed through in the simple but elegant Lanai Wedding décor where 160 guests took part in witnessing the exchanging of their heartfelt and reminiscent wedding vows that walked each one through their journey to this special day.

Enter into the wedding reception where stunning florals created to emulate the sunset and compliment the bridesmaids dresses were sprinkled throughout. A combination of lucite and dark wood signage alongside the custom designed paper goods showcasing their keepsake wedding “whale motif” kept the guests in the know.

After a sunset grand entrance that led straight into a very well - rehearsed first dance, the night was filled with a remarkable dinner that provided whole hearted and sincere toasts with five star cuisine and desserts. And if that all was not enough, what better way to entertain the well-traveled attendees than to the have world renowned professional DJ and music producer Raffael Deluca on board to provide the music set list throughout the evening. Mission accomplished Maggie and Todd!
